Several Legislators Support Trump Efforts to Question Vote

State legislators representing Giles County have signed letters of support in President Donald Trump’s efforts to have the results of unfavorable vote counts overturned in some states.

State Rep. Clay Doggett, R-Pulaski, whose 70th district includes all of Giles and most of Lawrence counties, signed a letter circulated by the House Republcan Caucus. Sixty-six of 73 House Republicans signed the letter.

Among those opposed to the petition were area legislators Michael Curico, Dickson and Sam Whitson, Franklin.

David Byrd, Waynesboro; Glen Casada, Franklin; Scott Cepicky, Culleoka; Kirk Haston, Lobelville; Pat Marsh, Shelbyville were among area state representatives who signed in support of the letter.

State Sen. Joey Hensley, R-Hohenwald, represents the 28th District, which includes Giles, Lawrence, Lewis, Maury, Perry and Wayne counties.

In the senate, 24 of 27 Republicans signed a letter similar to one circulated in the State House of Representatives.

Not signing the letter were Richard Briggs, Knoxville; Todd Gardenhire, Chattanooga; and Brian Kelsey, Germantown,

Among other area state senators signing the letter were: Jack Johnson, Franklin; Janice Bowling, Tullahoma; Shane Reeves, Murfreesboro.
